Shanklin U10 (1) v Oakfield U10 (0)

This was a game of two halves and I have to say that they both belonged to the Shanklin midfield.

With two of the squad missing it was aways going to be a tough ask to get anything out of this game against a team that basically blitzed us 6-2 in the cup only a couple of weeks ago.

From the first whistle Shanklins midfield showed they were more than up for it with some some hard tackling and a never say die attitude. Defensively solid was the name of the game at the back and up front problems were being posed to an Oakfield defence that was holding on.

The break came when Lewis Wade found himself on the floor on the touchline just  inside the penalty area and had the awareness to swing his right foot at the ball, passing it across the face of the goal to a waiting Dylan Leyman who blasted it into the back of the net.

This was a game that was probably the best all round performance by the under 10s this season, quick decisions from our keeper Luke playing out from the back, a `park the bus` performance from the defence by Sam and Harry, A new trio in midfield of Jack, Billy and Lewis that were absolutely mustard  and of course Dylan up front who terrifies defences with his pace and movement. Credit must also go to Ashley who played three different position and showed his adapatability and commitment.

Man of the Match was Jack Hill for his tireless effort in the second half while playing in an unfamiliar position

  1. Sean and the Lads, Very well done. I was at this match and I must say that the team worked well together and put in a great disply. I must say that you are working well as a team, and slowly getting out of this individual attitude, and it proved it when you were more interested in playing and winning than who got the goal. At last we have found the best position for Billy who yet again was outstanding in the middle of the park and well supported by the ever reliable Lewis Wade who also put in a fantastic peformance. Just to add what was said by Sean, Lewis did very well to look up and see Dylan unmarked, because a lot of players would have tried to shoot. All in all a fantastiv team performance and well done to Ashley who played a fantastic game when he was called upon to play in several positions. Having been involved with the team for a few weeks now, I would like to add that I think certain players are finding their best positions, Billy, Dylan and Jack to name a few. Boys just remember its not about scoring its about being a team and playing football, and when you do that the results will follow. Brilliant result, well done.
