Shanklin U10 (7) v Seaview U10 (0)
Shanklin U10’s showed what a good footballing team they are becoming with a fantastic win over Seaview. The scoreline was not important, but the way the lads played, the way they listened and more importantly the way they did what they were asked was fantastic.
I’m not going to write about who scored but instead write about who played well and how well they are improving. Luke in goal is still continuing to improve week in week out, and although he didnt have much to do in this match, when he was called upon to make a save he was ready and switched on.
The defence, consisting of Harry and skipper Sam were outstanding in this match. They were asked to be confident on the ball, have a touch and look up and think about their options. They were also asked to think about not just kicking the ball out, but to think about playing the ball out of defence, if the situation allowed. I can honestly say that they did this on several occassions, however when they were required to clear the ball, they recognised this and did it. Well done you two.
The midfield of Jack, Lewis, Reece and Ashley were all brilliant throughout this match. Yet again, the times that they put their foot on the ball and looked for a pass rather than just kicking the ball was far beyond their young age. They are also getting use to the fact that they are an extra line of support when attacking and an extra line of defence when we are defending. Although their workrate could have been a little bit quicker at times, generally they performed well and made a great contribution to the team.
Our lone striker was Dylan. He is our little whippet, always battling and a very hard player to mark. Dylan is probably the best player in the team for listening and taking things on board. He is a very intelligent footballer and grows every week. Although Dylan sometimes has a habbit of turning into trouble rather than looking up and playing the ball out to a team mate, he will without doubt become a prolific goal scorer as he develops.
All in all this was one of the best team performances I have seen this team play. The lads are now looking to play football rather than just kick the ball. Keep it up lads and roll on 11 aside football.

I have to say I whole heartedly agree. It was fantastic to see the lads moving the ball around and having the confidence to play it out from the back. They really battled early doors to gain superiority in midfield and that allowed them to play some quite stunning football at times. It seemed that Shanklin always had an extra man whever they were on the pitch and whoever had the ball had more than one option to make a pass.
A defining moment showing how far they have progressed was the free kick on the edge of the box that Sam took. Instead of blasting it, he looked up, saw dylan in space and just slotted it thru to him for Dylan to score, quality ! Awareness and unselfishness that reflected in the whole teams approach to a game that could have been a bit of a banana skin.
The oppo manager was full of praise and said what a cracking FOOTBALLING team they are.
Last game of the season next week against Binstead and then its down to the nity gritty of preparing for 11 a side
