Player Profiles

Tony Lewis (Jumbo) – Goalkeeper

Tony Lewis has been a regular in the first team for a few seasons now and has proved himself as a good shot stopper time and time again.  A well liked member of the club (even though he moans a lot) and a good supporter of the club. Married with 2 children, Tony is a Carpenter by trade and a lifelong Portsmouth fan. Tony does a lot to raise money for club funds by buying 6 burgers on a Saturday afternoon from the clubhouse, and thats before the game.

James Flemming – Goalkeeper

James is our other Goalkeeper within the club and is new to the set up this season. A regular in the reserve team, James always produces an all round performance, which will see him earn a crack at the first team in the near future.

Louis Browne – Defender

Probably the most liked member of the club both on and off the pitch. A youth player with Shanklin Louis has worked hard over the last few seasons and is now a regular 1st team player. Good in the air and having an elegant running style set Louis apart from the rest. Known as the joker at the club, Louis is a good supporter of the club and will one day earn the title of Club Captain. Louis is single and a window fitter by trade. Louis has recently decided he needed a new image and has changed his hair colour to a Ronseal Mahogony shade. They are right, it does do what it says on the tin.

Darren White (Rio) – Defender

Darren, also known as Rio, is in his first season back after suffering a serious leg injury. Having been out of football for 3 seasons, Rio has fitted back into the mould well and has shown what a good defender he is. Known for his deep thinking and yellow boots Rio is a favourite with Moaners Hill. Rio is single and is studying for his masters in sports psychology. Rio although quiet can sometime get upset which was evident recently when he swore twice on the pitch whilst his mum was watching. You devil.

David Mikolajec (Miko or Frosty)  – Defender

Having come to Shanklin 2 seasons ago from Sandown, Miko spent most of last season in the reserves. However a good season saw him given the chance in the first team at the end of last season and in pre season friendlies this year he has proved what a quality defender he is. Although he came to the club as a Midfielder he has been a strong dominant force in the defence. Miko has a long term partner and a young son. Suffers from the cold, which doesnt say much about his plumbing. Plumber by trade.

Dan Hawkins (Hawko) – Defender

Dan has been with the club for many seasons and has been a steady player for the reserves. Dan was given his chance in the first team in pre season, and more recently in October 2008.  Dan has sadly moved to Brading Town FC to play at a higher level but will always be welcomed back to the County Ground. Dan has a young son and is a floor layer.

Carl is also the manager of the Ladies 2nd team and assistant manager of the Islands Ladies Team. With Spary pushes the average age of the reserve back line to 112.

Rob Chard – Defender

Rob is currently the youngest player in the squad at 16 years old. He has been thrown straight in at the deep end by being drafted in to make his debut against Newport Res in October 2008. A talented Centre Back, Rob has impressed not only his manager and fellow players, but also the supporters! A great future prospect.

Shane Grant – Defence / Midfield

Shane has many years of experience and although coming to the latter end of his career, he still shows the younger guys how to play a calm influencing role in the middle of the park. A good socialiser, Shane can always be found drinking in the kitchen at any party.

Adam Connor – Defence / Midfield

Probably the most experienced player at Shanklin at the moment. Adam played for Newport (IW) FC when they were in the Southern Premier League. A calm collective player, Adam is best when the ball is at his feet. Married with a daughter Adam is a floor layer by trade.

Shaun Farrell – Defender / Midfield

An experienced player who until recently has been a solid Centre half for the first team. This year Shaun has dropped down to the reserves where he has been enjoying the freedom in the midfield. Shaun has experienced the success of the history making first team by being a part of the treble and double winning Shanklin sides in recent seasons.

Richie Downs – Defender / Midfield

A new player at Shanklin in the last couple of season, being brought in by Andy Spary. Richie is a solid player and can be relied upon to put in a good workman like performance when called upon. Although a quiet person, Richie has been a consistent team player.

Stuart Breignan – Defender / Midfield

A regular reserve team player with Shanklin over recent seasons, Stuart was a winning member of the reserve double winning squad. This season has seen Stuart play in all first team pre-season friendlies, and although has spent the early part of the season in the reserves has made his way back into the first team squad. Only passes to his brother and james marchant at training.

Luke Hatch – Midfield

Luke started his playing days at Shanklin and after many years working in London has recently moved back down to the Island. Another player coming to the end of his career, he still has the skills and playmaking attributes that has seen him win a regular first team place. A non drinking fitness fanatic Luke is ever present at training and will without doubt prove to be an inspiration to the younger players coming through.

Paul Haward – Midfield

Paul is the Club Captain and the Captain of the 1st team. Another Shanklin Youth Player, Paul had trials with Bournemouth when he was younger, however his career has been dogged with injury.  On his day, Paul is probably one of the best midfield players Shanklin has ever had (was that ok Paul?). Strong in his tackles, he is like a little terrier, never giving up. A well respected member of the club with both players and fans. Sometimes his head goes down, but we all know whay that is!

Alec Breignan – Midfield

Alex is new to Shanklin this season and has gone straight into the 1st team. Having come from local rivals Sandown, Alex took a little while to settle down, but has now proved himself to be a regular member of the team. The fittest member of the squad (Runningnot looks) and only passes to his brother and James Marchant at training.

Steve Mandley – Midfield

Steve has played for Shanklin for 2 seasons. A regular player with the reserves last year, Steve has now slotted into the 1st team for a regular slot. A very calm player, he has a good eye for a pass and is the midfield general of the team. When playing well, Steve is one of the best players at the club.

Nathan Sawtell – Midfield

Nathan is a player who gives his all. Not one of the best skillfull players but more than makes it up with his determination and non stop running. He is a popular member of the squad and always gives a solid performance with 100% effort. A member of the Royal Navy.

Danny Bilby – Midfield

Danny has come back to Shanklin this season after a spell away form the County Ground. Danny is the bulldog of the team, always ready to challenge for the ball and never stgops running. Danny is becoming a solid player for the reserves and after recent performances could be knocking on the first team door very soon.

Simon Hayward – Midfield / Forward (Goalkeeper)

A popular player with the supporters, Simon is Mr Versatile. Not only can he play in any position out filed but he is our 3rd goalkeeper. A long serving member of the club, Simon is the son of ex Shanklin midfield maestro Harry Hayward. Simon is married with a young son and is a golf Professional for a living. Moans at training and is happy with his stomach.

Nick Jewell – Midfield / Forward

Nick is a recent transferee from local rivals Sandown. Nick is the whippet of the first team and has shown explosive pace on the righ hand side. A consistent player who I am sure will settle in quickly at the County Ground.

Sam Doble – (Dobes) Midlfield / Forward

sam has been playing in the first team this seaon and has scored some vital goals for the team. He has shown that he is good in the air and as always is strong in the tackle. Will Bartley – (Tubby) Forward

Will is a new signing this season after being spotted drinking coke and watching Chelsea in the Townhouse. Will is hoping for a book on how to header the ball for Christmas.

Trevor Jacques – (Jakesy) Forward

The quiet member of the squad Trevor is known as the shy one !! Regular member of the first team, Trevor never stops running or moaning (never does both at once). Trevor has many years of experience and is a managers favourite, holding the ball up very well.

Ian Jolliffe – Substitue

Apart from being the Joint manager of the reserve team, Ian is a specialist in the art of sitting on the bench. Ian has had an illustrious career playing at the dizzy heights of Seaview for many years. Ian has tried to bring some training techniques form Seaview to the county ground but Manager Bennett not too keen on beach bar-b-ques. Supports Southampton officially, but if in the Townhouse amongst the Chelsea fan will put on Chelsea shirt for 90 minutes.
